Sherman + Marissa Proposal in Austin, Texas
A friend reached out to me a few weeks ago asking if I would be interested in photographing a proposal for her friend Sherman. Having never shot one before I nervously said "hell yes" and she connected me with him to chat details.
We met at a Starbucks while his soon-to-be Fiancé was supposed to be getting her nails done (apparently she opted for just a pedicure, but don't worry that ring still looked amazing on her hand!) and chatted about how it would go down. Sherman was scribbling on a yellow legal pad, writing specifics such as what to wear, where to position Marissa for a great downtown view and which way to walk up to the proposal spot with their two adorable pups.
Fast forward to the proposal day and I positioned myself on top of Doug Sahm Hill (a popular spot with a killer view of the Austin skyline) laying in wait. It was a bit gloomier than we were hoping but thankfully we still had a good downtown view. The only issue was that since the proposal was happening on top of a hill, I basically had to be up there with my camera ready and wouldn't have a great place to hide. I opted to pretend I was a tourist taking city shots as they walked up, although I'm not sure I fooled her.
As they began to walk into my viewfinder, I kept my lens focused on them worried I would miss the magical moment! Sherman bent down on one knee and asked Marissa to be his wife and (spoiler alert) she said yes! It was such a special moment to be a part of and as I walked up to introduce myself to his new fiancé after they had a few minutes together I couldn't help but notice my eyes tearing up along with them.
We stayed for about 20 minutes afterwards for some quick engagement style photos and I let them be on their way to share the news and celebrate with friends and family. Sherman and Marissa, thank you for trusting me to take these photos for you to cherish forever. It was such an honor to be there and witness this next step in your love story and I wish you a lifetime of happiness together.
